Join the Johnston Police Department and the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District for Trick-or-Treat with First Responders on Wednesday, October 22, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 p.m. at Fire Station 38, 10225 NW 62nd Avenue.
Unused or unwanted prescription drugs can be dropped off at the Johnston Public Safety Building, located at 6373 Merle Hay Road, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Please note that liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes, other sharps, and illegal drugs will not be accepted.

Come play and build those fine motor skills! 🤏✨ Clothespin Play is an engaging program designed to promote the development of fine motor skills in children aged 2 to 4. Through creative and playful activities using clothespins, young learners will enhance their dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive abilities while having a blast.
Join us for a hauntingly creative evening as we celebrate Edgar Allan Poe’s iconic poem “The Raven” along with a few other selections from his body of work. Library staff will do dramatic readings of selections, culminating with the poem, setting the tone for a night of mystery, melancholy, and artistic inspiration.
Put on your favorite costume and join us in the Community Room for not-too-scary stories and Halloween fun at the library. We'll start the program by showing off our costumes with a short parade around the first floor of the library. For ages 2-6 plus an adult.
Join neighborhoods as kids enjoy trick-or-treating through the neighborhoods from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The City of Johnston's Trick-or-Treat is now on Halloween, Friday, October 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Residents who hand out treats are encouraged to light up their front entrances to indicate that "trick-or-treaters" are welcome.
Holly Majerus is a local artist whose work celebrates the beauty of nature and still-life through detailed pencil drawings and vibrant canvas paintings. Her art begins as a blank page and transforms into something meaningful full of life and color.
Are you a student in 8th through 12th grade looking to make a difference in your community? Join our VolunTEEN program at JPL! On the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., you can volunteer to help with tasks that support our youth events. Volunteers will help prepare crafts and activities for library programs and assist with various tasks throughout the library.
We will have hands-on art projects that will spark learning and discovery for kids in K-5, as well as a snack! This is a drop-in event and no registration is required.
Join us to learn about how dementia affects communication and how to use a person centered communication approach. This program will include tips for communicating with family, friends, and health care professionals and will be led by staff of the Alzheimer's Association.
